Using XOG to activate/de-actviate custom attributes

I need to de-activate a big bunch of custom attributes across multiple custom objects.   the most expeidient method is to deactivate the attributes, then go into each object, filter on inactive, click the button to select all and delete.  I maintain a spreadsheet of all my attributes and their properties, which I use to build XML that I can cut and pase into the XOG GUI.  I was hoping that I could just use the same XML code for the attributes i want to deactivate, and set the
