CA IDMS Tuesday Tip by Edward Gorga, Principal Support Engineer for October 2, 2013.

One of the new features in IDMS 18.5 is that it allows mixed page group index sets. This feature allows the owner and member records within an index set relationship to reside in different page groups.
Mixed page group support has been around for a few releases now and it allows a single rununit to access data residing in areas defined to different page groups. The page group is assigned at the segment level so all areas in a segment have to be in the same page group. A DBNAME needs to be defined that specifies MIXED PAGE GROUP BINDS ALLOWED, then you can include segments for different page groups into this DBNAME. The main restriction of this feature was that there can be no sets or indexes that cross page group boundaries. IDMS 18.5 lifts this restriction for index sets. Chained sets still cannot cross page group boundaries but you could convert them to index sets to make use of this new feature .
