As the subject says:
Do we have too many boards? Do we need new ones?
Should we split the high volume boards up a bit? How, what tpoics should we have?
We should streamline to three boards.
This would make it much easier for me.
Get rid of the Nimsoft Cloud Monitor and Documentation Discussions board.
Roll Nimsoft On Demand into General perhaps as the message topics never seem specific to Nimsoft On Demand. Perhaps break the Boards out into NMS, UMP, and probes.
Good call, I have deleted the NOD as there where no posts.
I also agree, NMS core (primary hub, core connectivity) UMP and probe specific.
Wont happen over night but I really appreciate the feedback.
Can we get Kudos for bvlocks post in agreement?
Anymore want to bite? This is your board
FYI - I show 120 posts under the NOD Board
Your right it was another board that is so deleted I can't remember what it was called I will look to consolidate the others but I need to make sure nothing is deleted.
Perhaps the forum "CA Nimsoft Service Desk" under the CA Nimsoft Monitor Forum header needs to be moved / merged with "CA NSD General Discussion" under the CA Nimsoft Service Desk header?
I, for one, don't much use the different board links. I mostly navigate through the search and "view all new posts" link. That being said, I've always found the board listing to be a little excessive. Would it be possible to pull a report showing last post on a board and maybe a count of post within, say, last 6 months? I think that might give some direction as to which boards have been active recently.
Of course it should be considered people might post in the "wrong" board. I for one would have hard time telling, though
Was the irony of creating a new board to ask whether there are too many boards intentional? If so, my compliments!
I would actually like to see a few more boards to get some common themes out of the General board. Then again maybe that only makes sense when the forum is likely to have users that are only interested in certain areas, which is probably not the case outside of the existing separation of the development topics. I was picturing a separate board for the NAS and maybe trying to separate infrastructure (hub, robot, etc.) from monitoring probes. If we do that, it would be nice to be able to move things around more easily, but maybe that is what moderators could do.
We should probably be tagging posts more, which might be another way of organizing without needing too many boards.
Like Jon, the number of boards barely affects me. However, the reason is that I usually find out about posts via email by subscribing to the boards. (That might say something about my age.) So the funny thing is that more boards would be just fine, but I have to know about them in order to subscribe to them if interested. I did not see this thread via email because it is in a new board. Fortunately I logged in to the forum while this thread was in the list of recent posts.
So anyway, when you add new boards, it would help me (maybe only me) if you post that somewhere to an existing board (and hopefully that would be one to which I am already subscribed). This board or the Welcome board would probably make sense. Of course, as the volume on the forum picks up, it might make more sense for me to just login to see recent activity rather than rely on email.
Thanks for your work on improving the forums! I am glad to see them getting some attention and still hope to see more participation from CA along with these changes.
Hopefully we will have some new features soon that will allow us to create KB articles from great posts, more on this in the comming weeks, still busy with the new, now not secret project
You should'nt feed the trolls Carl.
How about a known issues board? Seems like a spend a lot of my time reporting these anyway. Perhaps a board in which the end users can post their issues so that other don't have to experience the same pains.
That would be a good thing for sure. Many times I've asked for some sort of bug tracking when meeting with Nimsoft/CA people but nothing ever comes out of it.
@jonhcw - So have I and suspect I will be having another meeting on this issue. Hopefully something meaningful comes out of it.
