Am new to CA nimsoft. Would like to Montio the ORACLE databses in my environment. please let me know the documents and
procedures to be followed, as I have to start from basic level. Kinldy help.
In IM, expand the Archive section of the navigation tree. Expand your primary hub. There should be a Licenses section - click it and the top right window should paint with the existing licenses. You can verify what you own here. To add them, right click that view and choose add license.
These instructions also come with the license file (they did with mine at least).
And most of these questions you have are in the knowledge base and easily found by searching rather than asking and waiting for a response.
If you go to the portal, then to articles, then drop "add license" into the search box, you'll get a handful of hits.
When I did this, the one that seems to hit your needs is:
There are many ways to do monitoring, but the most obvious way to at least get started monitoring Oracle databases with be to use the probe called oracle. You should be able to find it in the archive.
Online documentation can be found (among other places) here: http://docs.nimsoft.com/prodhelp/en_US/Probes/Catalog/oracle/4.7/index.htm
The Oracle probe can be daunting with the number of things that it can monitor.
My DBA looked at it and suggested that if not used with caution one could create a situation to monitor just by monitoring it.
For our purposes, we looked back through trouble tickets for issues and created a set of queries run through the jdbc_response probe to test for those specifics. Turned out to be much more lightweight than the oracle probe and easier for a non Oracle DBA to manage.
Also look to the logmon probe. A lot of things that go bad with Oracle are in the logs and not readily available via the database itself.
I agree with Anders and Garin both. We use a very small subset of checkpoints in the Oracle probe, carefully selected with a DBA. The same goes for all database probes we utilize. DB availability, cache hit ratio, different kinds of space monitors (table, datafile etc), backup are some of the very basic things we usually monitor.
There is a preset of oracle log watchers, think it's called oracle_logmon or logmon_oracle. This, however has quite a few ORA codes defined so one should be careful with this as well. Here too, we use only a small subset of the profiles provided. I also believe we've defined some of our own.
I have successfully installed NIMOSFT UIM , but am getting error while starting NIMSOFT Controller,
pls help to fix this.
That screenshot doesn't really help much. If at all. Go look in the robot install folder, and find the controller.log and nimbus.log in the robot/ subfolder. They might provide some indication on what the problem might be.
Thanks.. Once i launched infrastructure manager the controller came up. I need help on other issue.
Am trying to monitor ORACLE DB installed on remote machine and i have downladed oracle probe from archive.
But am getting " no valid license" error and let me know how to proceed further.
I have no idea if your contract includes the license for it or not, and I have no way of knowing. Talk to your sales rep.
Thanks... let me know the procedure to apply license if i recieve from sales team.
The license view in Infrastructure Manager actually support drag&drop. So if you have notepad with a long list of licenses (which you often do in the case of Nimsoft), you can mark it, and drag&drop it into the license view in IM for quick and easy addition.
