I want to get a feel for what people have had to go through in upgrading the OS while on NMS 6.2 or any similar version I suppose. Currently, I'm on 6.2 while on Server 2003 64bit. Need to get to Server 2008 64 bit. Anyone done this?
I haven't done this, but I'm interested in what your plan would be. I would probably go for clean installation (windows), copy the nimbus directory and run the installer there.. kind of like moving a normal hub. Of course you'd need to make some extra considerations.
Ya, don't have much of a plan at the moment. I think the running idea may be to start from scratch on a new OS with a fresh install of NMS... but there are a lot of details we would want to sort out before going down that path...
Since your already on a 64bit OS things will be easier as you don't have to worry about JRE. Also it will be pretty easy as you are already on a supported version for 2008 (6.2), so no need to update to move. jonhcw suggestion on the move is the way to go.
I have done what John suggested and it worked fine for the most part also did the same for our UMP server without issues.
Cool, so basically, just copy the entire Nimsoft folder to the new server where it would be installed. Launch the installer and tell it to install where the copied folders/files are and that's it? The install won't blow away anything that was copied?
It should'nt lose anything really as far as I know, but you could always keep a backup copy. There's been a few similar threads before I think, this one for example: http://forum.nimsoft.com/t5/General/New-NMS-install-Migrate-existing-Infrastructure/m-p/17075#M6419
it's suggested there that it might be better to just move over the configuration files.
So that's my thread that's linked, I did as Carl suggested and everything worked out fine. Was one of the easiest upgrades I've done with the product.
