Just would like to know if there is a way to have the file tranfer protocol been monitored with nimsoft.
you have a few choices:
You can test the ftp port is open with net_connect.
You can use logmon to monitor any ftp log on the ftp server.
You can use net_traffic to monitor ftp traffic going over the network.
You can run a scrip from logmon to connect to the ftp server, do somthing basic, and log out again. The output of this script will then be given to logmon and you can parse for success or errors.
Those are all good suggestions. If you want to test a file transfer as "something basic" with the logmon probe as suggested by Robin, you can probably do so with a single call to the wget command and would not even need a more advanced script. The wget command supports FTP, is available in nearly every Linux distribution repository, and can be downloaded for Windows.
ncftp also works well with both Linux and Windows as it supports batch mode and such so easy to automate task.
