DX Unified Infrastructure Management

  • 1.  Setting up UIM - What do I need?

    Hi All,

I'm interested in setting up UIM in my environment and I would like to know how many servers I need to get this up and running.

I did get a chance to read the section on Installation and Preparation in (CA Unified Infrastructure Management - 8.1 - CA Unified Infrastructure Management - 8.1 - CA Wiki) but soon got confused with the terminology of Hubs and Robots.  At the moment, I am assuming Hubs to be the main UIM server and Robots to be the agent servers, I don't even know if my assumptions are correct.

My initial plans are to monitor 50 servers.  How many servers do I need?  Do I need to purchase database server?

If this turns out to be successful, and I grow to 500+ servers, what are my options for growth?.... Redo everything or just add more servers?

Any help, comments, suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Hope attached presentation will help you to understand CA UIM architecture.

    Here is the hardware recommendations:

    Database Server System

    Minimum processor: 64-bit XEON-class, 2.0 GHz

    Deployment size

    Processor

    Memory

    Small

    One dual-core

    8 GB

    Medium

    One or two quad-core

    12 GB

    Large

    Two quad-core

    12 to 18 GB

    Major

    Two quad or eight core

    18 to 24 GB

    • Storage recommendations:
    • Obtain at least 1 TB storage for the database.
    • Use RAID 10 (for speed and reliability.
    • Spread database files across multiple disks to improve I/O.
    • Choose drive subsystems with low latency/seek times, high spindle speeds, and high interconnect bandwidth.
    • Continually consider data redundancy, synchronization, and database growth.

    Primary Hub System

    Minimum processor: 64-bit XEON-class, 2.0 GHz

    Deployment size

    Processor

    Memory

    Small

    One dual-core

    4 to 8 GB

    Medium

    One or two quad-core

    12 GB

    Large

    Two quad-core

    12 GB

    Major

    Two quad or eight core

    16 to 24 GB

    On all systems:

    • 15 GB available disk space is recommended.
    • The installer requires 2.1 GB of temporary space to unpack the files.

    UMP Server System

    Minimum processor: 64-bit XEON-class, 2.0 GHz

    Deployment size

    Processor

    Memory

    Small

Not required. Install UMP on the primary hub server.

    Medium

    One quad-core

    4 to 8 GB

    Large

    Two quad-core

    8 to 12 GB

    Major

    Two quad

    16 GB
