This happens with IE only and works fine with Mozilla and Crome
Please be careful with this setting, it can impact more than just Excel.
If you were encountering this problem as part of a setup where you are having Clarity running/listening on http internally, but your load balancer is providing an SSL offloader service (so clients connect to Clarity over https but the load balancer converts this to an unencrypted connection between the load balancer and Clarity server for faster SSL processing), and you do NOT have 'SSL is used but processed externally' enabled as your SSL handling option in the CSA, then chances are you were hitting problems due to the cache directives provided by Clarity and this option with the "Do No Save Encrypted Pages To Disk" in IE may appear to solve the problem but will end up contributing to more.
If you just happened to have the option incorrectly set in IE for other reasons, then maybe you did need to fix it. Please keep in mind the need for correctly setting the SSL option in the CSA though, and also the guidelines provided in the documentation:
The solution to this problem is to enable one security setting in IE. Please refer this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2549423
You are right Nick,
The solution is to Set the SSL is used but processed externally
