how to determine zIIP worth for your CV (updated)

Discussion created by ChrisHoelscher on Nov 29, 2015

due to a year-old fix available for 18.0 + (RO67689 IDMS/4808) , all information needed to determine zip worthiness can be found in the output from these 2 commands

DCMT D STAT SYS

DCMT D SUBT EFF

the fields from DCMT D STAT SYS

zIIP on zIIP Time

zIIP on CP Time

Number of Swaps

TASKS: Processed

and from DCMT D SUBT EFF:

    Total CPU time

TCB            SRB

on the Totals: line

here are a few definitions for calculations

total cpu - total TCB +  total SRB

% of total cpu eligible for zIIP = total SRB / Total CPU

% of eligible for zIIP actually sent to zIIP = (zIIP on zIIP + zIIP on CP) / total SRB

% of sent to zIIP actually run on a zIIP = zIIP on zIIP /  (zIIP on zIIP + zIIP on CP)

actual non-zIIP per task =   (total TCB + zip on CP) / # tasks

here is the bottom line

if for a given CV - the NON-Ziip / task is LOWER with zIIP exploitation enabled than with zIIP exploitation disabled, then zIIP exploitation is right for this CV

if for a given CV - the NON-Ziip / task is HIGHER with zIIP exploitation enabled than with zIIP exploitation disabled, then zIIP is most likely NOT the best choice for this CV
