Cancelling a Job

Discussion created by Anupam_Misra_6300 on Aug 15, 2016
We are using Automic jobs to kick off the SSIS task in our setup. The default behavior of Automic is that when we kill the Automic job, the SSIS task keeps running.

We are looking for the option of killing the automic job which in turn should kill the ssis job spawned.

One of the options, we came across was to select YES in the job object (Windows job -> Windows tab -> Job object -> Select Yes)

We wrote the test job (SLEEP_WAIT) for the suggested scenarios and observed the behavior of UC4 job and the SSIS task. Here are our findings:

1. On choosing the option Windows job -> Windows tab -> Job object -> Select Default

We executed the UC4 job which kicked off our SSIS task. In the Activity window, we choose CANCEL, which cancelled the UC4 job and it disappeared from the Activity window.

The SSIS task however continued to run and it completed.

2. On choosing the option Windows job -> Windows tab -> Job object -> Select Yes

We executed the UC4 job which kicked off our SSIS task. In the Activity window, we choose CANCEL, the following message was shown

2016-08-10 15:59:17 - U0011051 User 'IQ7178/CEAD.PRD' initiated CANCEL for 'SLEEP_WAIT' (RunID:  '0250979383').
2016-08-10 15:59:17 - U2001023 Cancel of job 'SLEEP_WAIT' with RunID '250979383' was successfully initiated.

After this message, we saw that the Uc4 job was still there in the Activity Window with the status "ACTIVE".

The SSIS task was cancelled.

So with "YES" selected in the job object, cancelling the UC4 job resulted in the cancellation of SSIS task but we are not sure why the UC4 job was not cancelled and removed from the activity windows.
