help with adsobcom

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Sep 22, 2005
hello all

I am attempting to assist a developer with ADSOBCOM - the bottom line is
.. even though I am running central version, if I do not include the
DMCL=validdmcl in the SYSIDMS parameters, the job abends unable to find
IDMSDMCL - putting any valid DMCL there (even one that is not associated
with the CV under which the job is running) allows the job to execute
correctly - any thoughts on why this might happen? the SC server was
down, so I could not search or open an issue with CA

thanks,

IDMS and encryption
"Has anyone used any type of encryption for storing IDMS data elements (i.e.
- credit card number)? Are there any third-party tools to accomplish this?

Re: ADSOBCOM
"Just thought I'd mention in case some have not found out, with release 16.0 the CA90s load library is no longer needed or used by ADSOBCOM or the CV. Here's part of a note I got from Stephanie Gordon:
For r16, we switched from CA-C to SAS C, so the CA-C runtime
library should not be needed. All the CA$... modules are
obsolete. Even ADSOBCOM shouldn't require them.

Another issue with ADSOBCOM is that it must have the CA 90'S
Load Library in
the //STEPLIB & //CDMSLIB, but, only if you use a //CDMSLIB.

However we don't have the source!.
It was bought 25 years+ ago and we don't know anything about the vendor.

Re: IDMS and encryption
"I have only ever heard of people coding their own as database procedures.
Algorithms should be easy to get using a google search - there are mainframe
sites on the web that may even provide code. Central Provident Fund in
Singapore had an excellent encryption routine for account codes - which went
so far as to generate a valid check digit for the encrypted account number.
The code was kept under lock and key so they may not be willing to share it
with you - although I believe the need for it has now passed (maybe?) so you
might get lucky. I suggest going through your CA rep to see if they can put
you in touch.
