Re:[DB2-L] UDB - Estimate Size Tool in Control Center

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Dec 6, 2005
Help!

I've been using the ""Estimate Size"" tool in Control Center to estimate
storage requirements for a database and application that is in
development.
I had been using the v7.2 DB2 Client (fixpak 7) until recently, when I
upgraded to v8.2 DB2 Client (fixpak 10). I'm getting vastly different
results.

For instance: I have a table that is defined in a tablespace with an 8k
pagesize. Runstats shows that there are currently 45,238 rows loaded into
the table, and the table has an average row size of 1,822 bytes. When I
change the ""New total number of rows"" to 2,128,266 and select ""Display
size
in units of Pages"", the tool comes back with an estimated size of 532,325
pages. This is consistent for both the v7.2 Client and the v8.2 Client.

Here's the interesting part: when I choose ""Display size in units of MB"",
the v7.2 Client comes back with an estimated size of 2,079.39mb. The v8.2
Client comes back with an estimated size of 4,158.79mb (which is exactly
double). This disturbs be greatly because I'm dealing with what I thought
was a 700gb database, but now may have just become a 1.4tb database this
afternoon.

So my question is: which one is correct? The v7.2 client, or the v8.2
client?
