Starting a CICS transaction from IDMS

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Mar 10, 2006
I need to start a CICS transaction from an IDMS background task and to pass
it some parameter information. RHDCUXFT does this but it requires a PTERM
and background tasks are not associated with terminals. I'd be interested to
know if there's another way to start the transaction or if it's possible to
acquire/fake a PTERM. All ideas welcome.

Cheers,

Jim.

Re: Starting a CICS transaction from IDMS
"Jim -

One way would be to have a perpetual CICS task with IDMS run-unit running
in CICS that wakes up every so many seconds to check for the presence of an
IDMS record-type that your IDMS background task would STORE. If the CICS
task finds it, it reads the record data which then can be passed to an
attached task within CICS.

If you are 16.0, I suppose you can create a TCP/IP connection where your
background task is the client and converses with a child-server task within
CICS.
You should have TCP/IP in CICS as part of the standard product.

Re: R14.1 vs. R16 CPU
"Our site has the newest version of TB96715, and it is significantly
better than the previous version. We are testing with real programs
that also contain a lot of non-IDMS processing, so our percentages are
smaller than you get with the ""test"" program. Without TB96715, the
average CPU increase from R14.1 to R16 is 2-6%. With TB96715, the
increase is 1-2%. We can live with that.
