Re: IDMS CICS COBOL PROGRAM

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Aug 10, 2006
If all that's wanted is a CICS program reading and writing IDMS data
then
there's no need to mess with UCFCICS; that's only needed if part of the
application runs in the CICS address space and part in the IDMS one and
communication is required.

A CICS program can use an interface to IDMS similar to the batch one and
can
contain ordinary DML statements. The compile procedure entails putting
the
source through both the CICS precompiler and the IDMS one; it's
documented
in an appendix to one of the mainuals. I'd guess the IDMS Cobol Guide
might
be a good place to look.

Hi Javier,

From memory; I had some Assembler / CICS / IDMS
programs that I used to -
- CICS Pre-compile
- IDMS Pre-compile
- Assemble
- Link edit with UCFCICS stub that was CV specific
- It required the UCFCICS interface to be assembled
- It passed/received a common area to IDMS-DC Cobol
program

If my memory is wrong, someone will correct me (I
hope).
If you need examples I will have to look around at
home. Drop me a line directly if you don't get the
COBOL samples you need somewhere else.

need to undertand how to interfase with cics and
what we need, and if you
have simple samples, jobs, programs, etc, can you
send it to me.

Thanks.

Re: V14 vs. V16 and CICS front ends
"Alan,

In 16.0 SP4 #README there is a note about communications with 16.0 and
earlier releases:

To allow communication between your r160 system and a r141
system, install QO23507 on the r141 system.

To allow communication between your r160 system and a r150
system, install QO23506 on the r150 system.

To allow communication between r141 and r150 systems, either
both QO23506 and QO23507 must be installed, or neither QO23506
nor QO23507 must be installed. (In other words, if either is
installed, both must be installed.)

QO23506 and QO23507 update internal fields containing version
numbers. Members QO23506 and QO23507 in this library contain
JCL to install these APARS on the earlier release systems.

HTH,
Steve Harmeson
