RHDCUCFB: Vary Area Offline - Pending status

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Aug 25, 2006
Hi,

I ran a batch job, executing PGM=RHDCUCFB, and executed some batch DCMT
commands to Vary some Areas Offline. This job finished with RC=0. Then a
few jobs later, I ran an IDCAMS to rename the physical Files which
correspond to these Areas, and got the message, ""Files in use.""

On investigation, the SYSLST from my original RHDCUCFB job showed that
the reply from IDMS to this DCMT command said, ""Vary Area Pending"".

Is there some way of capturing the ""real"" status code from RHDCUCFB, so
that if the Area is not successfully taken Offline, then I can know
about it, without having to manually examine the SYSLST output??

And then I'll be able to string a series of job steps together, and have
things work. In this case, RC=0 was of no real use, because there was in
fact an issue (ie: the Pending status) which needed to be resolved.

PS: I need to do this in Batch.

Thanks very much.

Possible Outage of IDMS-L
"This weekend our service provider is upgrading the software and hardware platform that host IUASSN.ORG. They do not anticipate any problems, but......... we're talking computers here and Murphy always haunts the halls.

Schema Mapper outputs
"I am a novice IDMS coder and would like some one to give me information on what the outputs of IDMS schema mapper are. From CA's site, it says one of them is cross reference report. Does anyone have example of the outputs from schema mapper. Please post one on the generic EMPLOYEE database that ships with IDMS.

Thanks.

Re: IUA website
"Laura,

Good luck. You are in a poorly documented world. I ""Googled"" this problem
and found a lot of people asking your question but not receiving answers.
Here are the things I would check first.

Start with the connection string. Your version of Microsoft Data Access
Components (MDAC) likely changed when you switched to Winserv 2003. Default
values may have changed, etc. Locate the MYSQL connection string
documentation and set every property explicitly.

Have you checked MYSQL's documentation for compatibility with your version
of MDAC? The ISP should be able to tell you the MDAC version they have
installed. Don't assume they checked.

Check the column types in the table to ensure they are all supported; no
BLOBs or other such non-ANSI things.

Try using an OLEDB connection string rather than ODBC. ODBC drivers have
been falling behind in recent years.

I can't see if your code is creating columns in the RECORDSET (schema
information) or if you are merely letting the ODBC driver do this during
OPEN (preferred approach). If you are setting the RECORDSET column types in
code, make sure the table's column types are convertible to the RECORDSET
column types.

If you want, let me know your findings using email outside of the list. Have
you ever considered using SQL Server or INGRES?
