Areas unlocked while a cv has it in update mode

This is an old question and one I thought would be in the IDMS-L
archives but I came up empty on a search.

I varied a segment offline only to find that some of the areas wouldn't
go off because they had been unlocked out from underneath the cv (not my
me!)
- resulting in a series of 3018 error messages being written to the log.
I thought that CA had supplied a DCMT command that I could use to force
the areas/files offline from cv but none of the VARY FILE or VARY AREA
command parms in the doc (14.1) looked like they would do the trick. Am
I missing something in the text? Am I correct in assuming that bouncing
the cv would fix this problem?

"Hello Dave:

You can do a DCMT VARY FILE SEGMENTNAME.FILENAME ACTIVE, then you can issue
any DCMT command against the area, such as offline or retrieval.
