Z/OS 1.8 ""Opportunity""

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jul 25, 2007
For those Z/OS sites not yet on Z/OS 1.8, here is an ""opportunity"".
Probably not a problem for most folks, but just in case...

PEA #: QI82743 DATE: 7 JUN 2007 ***** Product Error Alert *****
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Allocation of storage from CSA subpools.
A new parameter has been introduced with z/OS 1.8 which when set will
prevent jobs from allocating storage from CSA subpools using user keys 8
through 15. This new parameter is ""AllowUserKeyCSA"" and can be specified
as ""AllowUserKeyCSA(YES)"" or ""AllowUserKeyCSA(NO)"". The default at z/OS
1.8 or lower is ""AllowUserKeyCSA(YES)"". If ""YES"" is specified there will
be no impact on IDMS or jobs which communicate with IDMS via the
External Run Unit System (Batch to CV, CICS, etc). If ""No"" is specified
then the IDMS system will abend during startup with a system abend code
of B78-5C.

For a recommended resolution, see SupportConnect.

I registered using Events, but did not complete the 'payment' function. Do

Re: 4407/0371 errors
"Wayne -

Your post stirs some bad memories of queue problems I had at the turn of the
century.
We haven't had them for 7 years now, but when we did, it was truly awful.

Have you ever run a DBAN against the queue area after this happens?
If not, could you humor me and run one?

Also, try doubling the number of RUAL run-units you have defined for QUEUE
and see if that possibly makes any difference.

Thanks.

Hi Listers:

I do not remember if I reported this to the List before or
not. I thought it wouldn't hurt to do so even though this issue is in
Level2.

Again, Level 2 is looking into this but I thought I'd ""throw it out
there"" and maybe someone else has had this problem.

We are having problems with queue run units. Every couple of weeks,
usually when there is a 4407 error status the CV starts filling up the

log with the following RHDCRUAL/0371 error messages over and over again
after a 4407 has been displayed.

These 0371's keep repeating itself, and you cannot get into CV and of
course logs keep spinning out of control.

I end up hard canceling CV and warmstarting until the next time this
happens. Again, Level2 is looking into this but

I was curious if anybody else had this type of problem? We are on IDMS
15.0 SP5.

Thanks in advance.

"Hi Jon, how are you?
I have run dban on the run area and have not had any corruption.
The second choice, doubling the queue run units? I will look into that
but right now I have a trap given to me by level2 so I do not want to
change anything until the trap is triggered.

Thanks Jon.
