Dynamic calls

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Sep 7, 2007
This question is about DC-COBOL programs. Is it possible to do a
dynamic COBOL call (as opposed to a ""transfer control"") to another
program in the IDMS online environment? Or must the called program
always be linked with the calling program?

Trivia question
"After upgrading from R16 SP2 to R16 SP4, we had two ADS dialogs that
were misbehaving. The problem was fixed by recompiling them under SP4.
The surprising part is that these dialogs had last been compiled in
1986! They were still working fine last week, after 21 years, and 5
different releases of IDMS. Now that's backward compatibility.

Trivia question: What is your oldest ADS dialog load module, that is
still being used in production?

IDMS communicating with more than 1 LPAR
"As part of a cost containment measure, some of our CPU host people are
talking about splitting our LPAR into two or more. One of these LPARS
to be batch, and one to be online (CICS.)

Now for the question: Can IDMS talk with more than 1 LPAR from 1 CV?
If so, are any of you doing it - and how so?

I'm just starting the research and am thinking that the list would be a
great place to start.

TYIA,

Dick

"We have done this quite a while back using channel to channel
connections (which was fast, couldn't give you times) and using a vtam
to vtam connection also (which was much slower but acceptable).
