CASDATA

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Sep 14, 2007
Hello All:

Anybody out there still running CASDATA? If so, on what release of IDMS?

I have a client still running release 12 they have CAS and use CASDATA
extensively.

We are looking at upgrading but we are afraid of the CASDATA Component.

Re: CASDATA
"Bill -

Absolutely, CASDATA will not run on R16 unless you upgrade.
I have read conflicting information on this.
There is either a version that will run on R16 or they are still working on
getting it to work correctly.
We were under the understanding from INFOR that there is a working version
for R16.
However, some of our Listers disagree and are having problems.

We dropped support for it years ago and looked into re-establishing our
license so we could move to the R16 version.
The re-license price was about 4 times higher than what we were willing to
pay.... and we were willing to pay what we felt was ""reasonable"".
Since we were not a high-volume user, we decided to move to a different
product called HATS, which we were using elsewhere in IT already.

Thanks.

Stall waiting for EREECB
"Sometimes a batch run-unit abends with a DC001003 abend (stalled waiting
for EREECB). There is no further information on the IDMS log. The ECB
is of course long gone by the time we are looking at this. According to
the message definition, this abend can be caused by exceeding the
inactive interval, the internal wait time, or the external wait time.
That covers a lot of possibilities. Is there any way to get more
information (after the fact) about what the run-unit was waiting for?

Re: Stall waiting for EREECB
"The run-unit was waiting to hear from the batch side. It means that the
batch job has issued a bind run-unit and then gone off to do something
and didn't do another dml request, when the timeout mechanism poppled.
Usually, it is because a program didn't do a finish for some reason.
Could also be that it was looping, or was so busy with other stuff, like
waiting for a tape mount, that it didn't get to do a finish before the
timeout popped. Btw, this is the most common error message in the idms
log that i've ever seen.

Re: Stall waiting for EREECB
"Kay,

The EREECB is waited on by the CV for the next DML from an external
requestor. The maximum time that CV will wait is defined by EXTERNAL
WAIT TIME.

So a stall waiting on EREECB means that the batch job has not issued a
DML for the time specified EXTERNAL WAIT TIME.

Hope this helps

Pete
