Re:CA-World topics / speakers.

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jan 16, 2008
The IUA has been involved in the IDMS track at CA-World since the first
CA-World.
And 2008 is no different.=20

As 2008 has just begun, (and a Happy New Year to you all) the IDMS Track
CA-World planning committee thought it's time to start collating topics
and speakers.=20

What topics would you or your colleagues like to see at CA-World this
year?=20

- Have you thought of a hot topic?=20
- A subject not heard about for a while?
- A good training idea?
- A basic technical subject with new ideas?
- Is there Someone you'd like to see speak at a CA-World session?
- Maybe there's a technical speaker you'd like to see, or maybe a
management guru?

If so, we'll listen to you and we (the IDMS Planning committee) will
find someone knowledgeable to speak on the subject.

- Or perhaps you have a subject on which YOU could speak for an hour?
It could be technical, it could be what you are doing at an IDMS site or
what you have noticed about IDMS somewhere.

If any of the above is true, please visit the CA-World website
(http://www.caworld.com) and complete a ""Call for speakers"" form whether
you simply want to suggest a topic for CA-World or whether you think you
could talk to others about a topic. If you have any opinion at all, then
please fill in the form especially the ""Subject"" and a brief ""Abstract"".

https://www.ca.com/us/Register/form.aspx?CID=3D139640

NOTE: The ""Call for speakers"" form is for you to request a topic or a
speaker and not simply to volunteer to speak

We need input to plan for a better IDMS track.=20

Setting upper and lower case from within an application
"I am looking into allowing lower case characters for the password field in our application signon screen. The application is designed to use only upper case characters where the inital setting (DCUF SET UPPER) is in effect for the entire application. I have seen in the Map Read/Write Options for the Field definition series of screens in MAPC the setting ""Translate to upper case"" but this is not required (and has not been set) because the overall setting is to UPPER. When I use ""DCUF SET UPLOW"" I can key in both upper and lower case characters into the application screens.

However, the amount of effort to change every alphanumeric entry field in the application to ""Translate to upper case"" would be unacceptable if the overall setting was ""DCUF SET UPLOW"".

The question I have is whether there is a way to issue the ""DCUF SET UPPER"" with an application call so I can have the first signon screen execute as DCUF SET UPLOW and then for all other application screens have DCUF SET UPPER active. Alternatively, is there any other approach that I can use to isolate the change required to support both upper and lower case to the signon screen only?

TIA

Re: Setting upper and lower case from within an application
"Tim - What if your application signon screen issued its own DCUF SET
UPLOW before mapping out? Then it could issue a DCUF SET UPPER after
password validation. I have written processes that do DCUF commands in
the past.
