Re:Get storage

Discussion created by ca.portal.admin on Jul 22, 2009
Thanks to Tommy's and Peter's suggestion, I am now getting a clean compile.
But I don't seem to be getting a valid pointer back at run time. Can anyone
provide a way to convert the pointer to a displayable format? Or better
yet, some sample code that uses the pointer parameter for ""get scratch""?

I wish the storage interface had separate ""get"" and ""put"" commands, like the
scratch and queue interfaces do. I am having some difficulty determining
which parameters apply to which situation.

"I was recently asked about possibly encrypting a new record or elements

would be for a relatively short time (a year or less) since the
application is being replaced by a non-IDMS system (sigh).

Thanks for any help,

Chuck,
I don't think this will work . After the DML expansion you will see the =
dc call with :

CALL 'IDMSCOBI' USING SUBSCHEMA-CTRL =20
DCBMSCOM (13) =20
BY CONTENT LENGTH OF SQL-COMMAND =20
BY REFERENCE ADDRESS OF SQL-COMMAND; =20

IDMS will allocate a fixed portion of storage.

If you want to allocated dynamically storage then you have to call an =
assembler module: call 'assembler' using length-off-wanted-storage=09
=
address-off-allocated-storage; =20

The calling arguments are coming from the ws of the calling program.

After returning from this module you can do a cobol statemSent:

set address sql-command TO ADDRESS OF address-off-allocated-storage

If you allocated the storage with #getstg type=3Duser,short the you =
don't have to remove the storage after you program is finished.
