CA Tuesday Tip: (CA IDMS) TUNE INDEX with different IBC/Page Reserve

Discussion created by Ian_Hill Employee on Oct 23, 2012
CA IDMS Tuesday Tip by Yves Anthoons, Principal Support Engineer, for October 23, 2012

Subject : Reorganize index structures with different IBC count and/or PAGE RESERVE clause without the need to create additional schema/subschema and DMCLs.

The TUNE INDEX utility (from CA-IDMS r17.0 and r18.0) will allow you to specify a temporary (smaller) IBC count and PAGE RESERVE value.
With this additional functionality, your index structures can be reorganized without the need to create additional schema/subschema and dmcls.
Your index strucutures will be rebuilt the same way as during an unload/reload or MAINTAIN INDEX, but the SR8s won't be full.
This will avoid numerous splits (and spawns) during the subsequent daily processing.
For more information, please consult the CA-IDMS Utilities Guide.
